Careers in Sport + Leisure

Careers in Sport + Leisure was the creation of not only our own event, but also the first ever national careers event for the sport and leisure industry. We wanted to do something never done before, and fill an information void for young people looking to get into the industry. The concept of the event was simple - all we had to do was get lots of brilliant speakers from across the sport and leisure industry to give up their time and to pass on their experiences to the next generation following in their footsteps. Add a good number of organisations that want to meet these same young people, put them all in a big space (preferably indoors) and then simply attract a few thousand proactive, young delegates in order to create the country's first ever national careers event for sport and leisure.

Held at the Sheffield Arena over 2 days, CSL 2009 attracted 4500 young individuals, all with an interest in sport and leisure, 48 exhibitors from the industry, 44 leading speakers and lots of media coverage. An unheralded success, the event launched during the worst economic conditions for decades and went off with a bang. Speakers such as Duncan Goodhew, Phil Smith (Sport England), Florence Orban (National Skills Academy), Leigh Hine (Sports Recruitment International), Don Goodman, Andy Gair (sports coach UK) and Jamie Houchen (The FA) graced the event, as well as exhibitors including The FA, Institute for Sport, Parks and Leisure, Virgin Active Gyms, SkillsActive, Fitness First, Amateur Rowing Association, Premier Training, Milkround and Jobswithballs. Media coverage included a live interview from the event with Darren Campbell which featured on BBC breakfast news, as well as extensive local and industry coverage.
